A trip to our State's Capitol Jefferson City

Jefferson City is a very cool place!  It’s even cooler because it’s our State Capitol!

Last year, in April, my mom and I got a bus full of 16 people to Jeff City for Disability Rights Legislative Day.  We met with Senators Ryan McKenna and Eric Schmitt.  We met Mark Ohrenberg who is the Youth Coordinator with Independent Living Centers.  We also met with  Rick Stream and Kack Haslag, his secretary.

This year, we are going to meet with Senators McKenna and Schmitt again as well as our State Treasurer Clint Zweiffel, Attorney General Chris Koster and Representatives John Diehl, Paul Weiland and Jeff Roorda.  We are going to talk about all the bills being passed for disabled people and all kinds of other topics.

For lunch, we are having Mia sandwiches from New Leaf Cafe and are going to eat them at a picnic by the Missouri River.
It is going to be a great time!

PS

Some fast facts about the Capitol:

The first state capitol building in Jeff City was built between 1823 and 1826 and was destroyed by fire in 1837.

A new capitol building was completed in 1840 but was destroyed by a lighting bolt that caused another fire.

The present building was completed in 1917 and contains a famous mural by Thomas Hart Benton.

Middle School

 October 7 2012

This year, I started middle school, and it is really fun. The teachers are really nice, and the kids are awesome. There are different rooms for every class, which makes it more interesting ! The cafeteria has alot more choices than last year, too! Already we have alot of fun activites coming up, such as: 6th Grade Dance (EEEEKKKK!), the Turkey Trot, Battle of the Books, 6th Grade Camp, and much more! So far my favorite class is Speech and Drama. I will keep you posted on the school year as it continues!

Bye for now,

Mia
